During our visit to Barcelona, we discovered not only a treasure trove of classic historic references and influences to cultures as diverse as the Romans, Visigoths, Moors and Napoleonic French, but also an exciting variety of styles of modern graffiti. We shot hundreds of photos of this sophisticated “street art”, which ranged from fully realized airbrush figures to more stylized and incised line drawings and symbols. Barcelona Script Grande is our fusion of these two disparate yet compatible visual languages. To create the artwork for Barcelona Script Grande, we troweled a series of layers of marble plaster to a wall, then hand-scratched the linework into the final, still damp top-coat. We offer two different sizes of this motif in the Barcelona series: Barcelona Script Grande and Barcelona Script, a smaller version. The super-sized Barcelona Script Grande takes on a formal architectural quality and works beautifully in larger public spaces. Its languid sensibility is a more modern alternative to the classic damask.
