 Nakhom Phanom is right on the Laotian border at the head of the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The villagers in this area don’t see the hordes of tourists that visit the beaches, so we were made to feel quite special. Before we were allowed to leave, we were treated to a lovely dance performance and a ceremony where everyone in the village tied a blessed string to our wrist for safe travel. We wore them until we returned to Austin and still keep them in our suitcases for good luck.
